NZ Censor Threatens To Jail Parents Who Buy... →
New Zealand wants to pass a law that sends parents to jail for letting their children play games rated for an older audience: Based on the law, parents prosecuted could face $10,000 fines or be put in jail for three months. Which do you think would do more harm to a child? Playing GTA or having their parent dragged through a show trial, for “shock value,” and dumped in jail for...

Jesus Made Me Puke →
Inside look on what goes down during these mega-church retreats: “I told my nephew to look around the house,” Fortenberry continued. “I said, ‘Do you have a copy of Harry Potter?’ And he said yes. And I said, ‘That’s your problem.’ So I told him to go get that copy of that book, tear it in half and throw it out the window. So he does it, and...

Miracle Liquid →
The stuff is a simple mixture of table salt and tap water whose ions have been scrambled with an electric current. Researchers have dubbed it electrolyzed water — hardly as catchy as Mr. Clean. But at the Sheraton Delfina in Santa Monica, some hotel workers are calling it el liquido milagroso — the miracle liquid. I’m excited. If you know anything about me, you know I hate...

Time Warner Cable blames DDoS attack for spotty... →
From the article: Kudos to TWC for stepping up and admitting the existence and scope of the problem—better to tell your customers there is an issue rather than let them sit around pulling out their hair. My connection has been spotty at best over the last week. Glad TW is explaining the situation.

The definition of a great undercover cop: Still, some of Mularski’s carder buddies refused to believe the reports. “These guys trusted me so much that even after the Wired article came out exposing me, for two days afterwards people were reaching out to me on ICQ thinking that it was a hoax and making sure I was alright.” (Via kottke.)

Muxtape is Reborn →
I loved this service when it was around for personal use. When it disappeared last year I was disappointed to see it go, but impressed at some of the open source solutions that came out like Opentape; I used Opentape to create a best of 2008 playlist. This new release of Muxtape is a fresh idea, and it’s great to see that Justin Ouellette could still make something that the labels would...

Listable →
Interesting concept for a website/web service. It’s a simple site, with no ads, that let’s you store lists and have them handy for later. You can generate the lists in JSON, MySQL, and plaint text. Some of my favourites so far are the list of the first 493 Pokemon and the list of fonts most used by designers.

Rands on being a manager: Context Switcher. This is your morning. Six 30-minute 1:1s starting at 9am. This day is unique in that in your 4th 1:1, your architect resigns. The guy who has been designing the heart of your application for 18 months has been poached by a start-up and had piles of money thrown at him, and it sounds like there’s no way of saving him. Sounds grim. What’s harder is...

The best Mac games of all time →
John Siracusa, writing for Macworld’s “The Mac at 25” series, decides the five best Mac games of all time. The one Mac game I remember playing the most was The Amazon Trail by MECC. My fondest memory of the game was after dying, the entire screen would turn red and play an 8-bit melodic tone.

Shutting Off Mac Screen With Shortcut
Whenever I either go to bed or leave my computer for a while, I like to turn the screen brightness all the way down to save the screen. This unfortunately requires holding the lower brightness button for at least two painful seconds. Instead of wasting those precious two seconds, just use the ctrl + shift + eject shortcut to shut that sucker off instantly!
